A lot depends on what car you have, or are you buying a car to race with?

If buying - small 'stock' 1600 hatchs may well be the cheapest.

Formula Nippon is cheapish for Jap/Asian cars

I will be starting from scratch, I am swaying towards the MR2 championship (750mc) as its fairly basic regs, (suspension and exhaust changes only) cars are cheap plus a mate is racing one. I should be able to blag a few cheap bits (deffinately know I can get seat & harness at trade, maybe brake pads too) for the sake of a few stickers, might be able to get a fluids deal going too.

Financially, if I can pull a few strings, get decent work during the summers, etc, I should be able to do it, I may have to sacrifice a few nights out and not have a nice road car but it would be worth it IMO. I guestimate it would cost 2k to run a built car for a year, 2k for entry fees, 2-3k to build an MR2 and selling my Audi to buy a suitable tow car and trailer which would just leave race wear and license

Then you want to at least double that. The issue with racing is thats its never cheap, even when it initially seems it.
